Free Research, (http://www.free-research.com/overview.asp) has market research, company and country reports for free. The information covers 27 separate global vertical markets and lists trade associations across each of the 27 global industry sectors. One of the reasons I like this site is they have useful information in one place for that market or industry. Free-Research.com includes some annual reports, 10k's and investor presentations. The Country Guides and Market Insights can provide business information if you are looking for an international overview. The more in-depth reports tend to be one or more years off the most recent 12 month period. Yet the information is still useful.
Business Search Example
In the market section I sorted by country and reviewed the US California Restaurants Market 2007 and the US Pet Food Market 2005. The Pet Food Market had in-depth information that would be a good review for someone looking into the Pet Industry in the United States. The report was prepared by Nora Ganim Barnes, Director, Center for Business Research, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. The second report on the California restaurant industry was a quick two page brochure with a few facts.
The country reports provide useful information. I reviewed Peru since I have spent some time there. It was produced by the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service and U.S. Department of State and contained very useful information for someone unfamiliar with the country. The association links were useful as they were accessible while on the free-research.com website.
As of this writing, I did not find the industry news feature that useful as it took the search terms and performed a Google search which can be done outside the site. Free-Research.com is a place to get started with information needs when you are looking for in-depth information, or overviews at a country, industry or market level. It does have some very useful information to the business person or investor.
